Alternate Therapies - Astro Counselling

Weaving Together Astrology-Coaching-Counselling

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” — Carl Jung

Counselling, life coaching and astrology may look like separate worlds on the surface, yet for many people they speak to the same underlying desire: to understand ourselves more deeply, make sense of our patterns, and live with greater awareness and choice.

When they are woven together thoughtfully, they can create a rich, layered approach to personal growth that honours both the psychological and the symbolic life.

This work focuses on self-awareness and personal growth, using the astrological birth chart as a tool for insight, rather than prediction or an astrology reading.

Carl Jung and the Symbolic Language of Astrology

The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung was one of the most influential figures to bridge psychology and symbolic systems like astrology. Jung did not use astrology as a predictive science in the modern pop-culture sense. Instead, he was interested in it as a symbolic map of the psyche.

He observed that astrological archetypes often aligned with patterns he saw in therapy—recurring emotional themes, relational dynamics, and inner conflicts. Jung believed that symbols, myths, dreams, and archetypal systems could help access the unconscious mind in ways that purely rational language sometimes could not.

In this way, astrology can be understood not as “telling the future,” but as offering metaphorical language for inner experience—something that can be explored gently within a counselling or coaching session.

"Our natal chart, in other words, is like a mandala of our soul’s plan for this incarnation." Carl Jung

"You are totally unique. A birthchart cannot be duplicated within a period of less than twenty five thousand years. Astrology is a key to specific knowledge that can unlock the power of one's inner self." Jan Spiller in Spiritual Astrology

When counselling, life coaching, and astrology are integrated thoughtfully, a session might unfold like this:

Counselling provides the grounding. It creates safety, emotional containment, and space to explore what is currently happening in a person’s life. This might include grief, anxiety, relationship difficulties, identity questions, or life transitions.

Life coaching brings structure and forward movement. From this space, we might explore: What is emerging for you? What feels ready to change? What would support you in taking the next step?

Astrology can then be introduced as a reflective lens. A birth chart or specific astrological theme may be used not as a definitive answer, but as a way of deepening insight. For example, a person noticing repeated patterns in relationships might explore symbolic themes that reflect their experience, helping to externalise and reflect rather than internalise self-criticism.

The integration is not about certainty—it is about meaning-making. It allows people to hold both psychological insight and symbolic reflection at the same time, often leading to a more compassionate understanding of themselves.

What Working Together Looks Like

These Sessions are a reflective space where we slow things down, and explore what’s happening in your life and inner world. Each session unfolds at your pace, with space for whatever feels most important on the day.

Often, we begin by looking at the patterns beneath things — the thoughts, feelings, relationships, or situations that may be repeating or feeling hard to shift.

Starting Where You Are

We begin with whatever you bring into the session. This might be something clear, like a situation or decision, or something less defined, like feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure.

A Safe and Supportive Space

Counselling provides a steady and supportive space to talk things through without judgment. It allows room for your thoughts and feelings to be heard, understood, and worked through at your own pace.

Gently Finding Direction

As things become clearer, we may begin to explore what feels ready to shift or change. This can help you connect with your own sense of direction, values, and what feels right for you moving forward.

Looking at Patterns in a Different Way

Astrology is used as a reflective tool. It is not about predicting the future, but about understanding patterns in your life in a broader way — almost like stepping back and seeing the bigger picture of your experience.

Many people find this helps them see themselves with more understanding and compassion.

Bringing It Together

Toward the end of the session, we take time to bring everything together. You may leave with more clarity, a new perspective, or simply a greater sense of calm and connection with yourself.

How Astrology Is Used in Sessions

Psychological astrology is not used here as an astrology reading or full interpretation of your birth chart. The focus of the session remains counselling-based, with astrology used only as a reflective support when it feels helpful.

If we do bring in your birth chart, it is not looked at in full. Instead, we may gently focus on one or two relevant themes that connect with what you are experiencing in your life right now.

In this way, the chart is used more like a reflective prompt rather than something being “read” or interpreted about you. It can sometimes offer another way of seeing familiar patterns with more understanding and perspective.

You are always part of this process, and nothing is presented as fixed or definitive. The intention is simply to support insight, clarity, and self-understanding within a counselling conversation.
